Colombian-American Soprano, Maria Caycedo, was most recently seen in Pocket Opera’s rarely performed No Love Allowed (Wagner) and can next be seen as Phyllis in Iolanthe with Lamplighters Music Theater. One of her most exciting engagements was collaborating with local emcees and hip-hop artists in Aurora Theater’s limited Tell Tale Hearts: an evening of hip hop theater with Carlos Aguirre and the Bay Area Theatre Cypher. Dedicated to promoting Latin American composers, she gave a special recital of Latin American repertoire at De Anza College, featuring Colombian composer Jaime Leon Ferro. Maria has premiered several roles in new works: Pammy in the musical Finding Medusa by Jeff Dunn and Madeline Puccioni, Quinn in the musical Castle Happy by Jeff Dunn & John Freed, and Temple Member in the gospel-chamber opera Heaven Down Here (2014) by Andrew Jamieson, which was showcased at the 2017 National Opera Association Annual Convention. Other new music credits include Sara in La Llorona by Hector Armienta, Atlanta Opera’s 24-Hour Opera Project and Opera Theater Unlimited’s 48-Hour Opera Project. She has sung with Lamplighters Music Theater, Pocket Opera, Island City Opera, Opera Birmingham, Phenix Opera, Verismo Opera, Opera Cultura, Lyric Theater of San Jose, and West Bay Opera. Roles include Bernice (L’Occasione fa il Ladro), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Lucy (The Telephone), Musetta (La Boheme), Frasquita (Carmen), and Belinda (Dido & Aeneas). Maria looks forward creating more opportunities that focus on women and Latin American composers!
